Benefits of Combined Performance Superior™ Filter

The Filtrona Combined Performance Superior™ (CPS™) filter is designed to be used to give the cigarette a unique end appearance. The Combined Performance Superior™ filter also offers enhanced tar and nicotine retention without the need for increased draw resistance or higher ventilation.

The Combined Performance Superior™ filter also offers a number of other key benefits:

• Suitable for use with all varieties of tobacco blends
• Higher tar retention than standard MonoAcetate filters, while maintaining a similar smoking experience
• May assist in counterfeit prevention using a standard CPS™ or a CPS™ filter with a coloured inner wrap
• Can give an equivalent tar retention to a monoacetate but a lower pressure drop is achievable
• Reduced yields possible with reduced or no ventilation

Construction of Combined Performance Superior™

The Combined Performance Superior™ filter consists of high-quality crimped cellulose acetate fibres which are bonded together with a controlled amount of plasticiser to give a firm structure. This is first enclosed by an embossed semi-crêpe paper inner wrap, giving the superior fluted appearance and then wrapped in an outer plugwrap which can be either standard or porous depending on ventilation requirements.

The flutes can be presented either at the mouth end, which offers a distinctive end appearance, or at the tobacco end, to give the impression of a standard Mono-Acetate end appearance. Both configurations impart identical technical benefits.

As smoke flows through the filter, it naturally follows the path of least resistance along the flutes. As the flutes are only formed for part of the filter length, smoke is drawn through the paper at the end of the embossed flutes. This is called the cross flow filtration mechanism, and it achieves an extremely high level of tar and nicotine retention, giving the Combined Performance Superior™ filter its overall increased efficiency.

A wide range of lengths, and circumferences can be selected. This ensures each construction is precisely designed to suit the taste and filtration requirements of the customer and enhance a particular brand.
