Hydrogen Cyanide

This molecule has a faint, bitter, almond-like odour that some people are unable to detect due to a genetic trait. Hydrogen cyanide is obtainable from fruits that have a pit, such a cherries, apricots, apples, and bitter almonds. It is speculated that life may have originate from the condensation of hydrogen cyanide which acted as precursor to amino acids and nucleic acids.
