RYO

Performance RYO Range

The Performance Range of filter tips uses activated carbon to reduce harmful smoke compounds.  Cigarette smoke is made up of over 4000 different chemicals. It can be divided into four main phases all of which contain compounds that can be considered harmful or toxic. These are gasses, vapours, semi-volatiles and non-volatiles.

Performance range uses granulated activated carbon to selectively reduce a broad spectrum of the constituents of smoke, such as semi-volatiles and vapour phase gases, compared to standard filters. By removing some of the harsher tasting compounds, filter tips with activated carbon deliver a smoother, cooler smoke.

The most common carbon filter in the world for machine-made cigarettes is the Active Acetate Dual. However, this is not appropriate for the RYO market because the carbon granules are exposed at one end of the filter. The Performance range has filters with clean cellulose acetate at both ends – just like any other filter tip - while containing granular activated carbon in its centre.

The benefits of activated carbon are now well-established in many markets and have close associations to other forms of filtration, such as water filters. The use of activated carbon in filter tips has seen significant growth in many markets across the world and is now found in many of the major RYO markets.
