Low Cost Filter - Super Slim Randomly Orientated Acetate™ Filter

The highly innovative process used to produce the Randomly Orientated Acetate™ filter conserves a significant amount of cellulose acetate tow. Recent research shows that this is especially the case in the Super Slim format when up to a 20% weight saving can be achieved compared to the equivalent format industry-standard Mono-acetate.

The chart below demonstrates the results of the research. The weight savings can be delivered across a wide range of pressure drops for Super Slim Randomly Orientated Acetate™ (ROA) filter compared to an equivalent Mono-Acetate (WA) filter. The analysis used 30mm length and 16.8mm circumference (or 5.3mm diameter) tips.

Cost Savings through lower tow weight

Another strength of the production process for the Super Slim Randomly Orientated Acetate™ filter was demonstrated during the research: a greater choice of tows can be selected to achieve the same pressure drop and therefore smoking experience. In a market segment which largely requires premium priced tows to produce filters, the super slim Randomly Orientated Acetate™ allows the selection of lower cost, standard tows.

Tow options lrg

The table above shows that the same tip pressure drop (PD) can be achieved using different tow filament denier. The results also demonstrated that the same or slightly better retention performance for a desired pressure drop can be delivered for Super Slim Randomly Orientated Acetate™ compared to an equivalent Mono-Acetate filter.

This excellent cost saving technology can be used to access the fastest growing segment of the global cigarette market. Read more
