The Filtrona Flavour Thread™ filter provides an effective method of adding flavours to cigarettes to enhance the tobacco blend or extend the range of the existing brand. The thread can be coloured to communicate the enhanced taste and build brand equity.

Construction of Flavour Thread™ Filter

The Flavoured Thread™ filter consists of an acetate filter with a flavoured additive. It is constructed with high-quality crimped cellulose acetate fibres which are bonded together with a controlled amount of plasticiser to give a firm structure. This is enclosed in an outer plugwrap which can be either standard or non-porous depending on the ventilation requirements.

The flavour is added by embedding a specially developed thread in the cellulose acetate or paper and can be coloured to suit the brand. Specific amounts of the flavour can be precisely added to the filters and higher loadings can be achieved using multiple threads. Some of the flavours currently used include: apple, coffee, menthol, orange, peach, and strawberry.

The new and improved positioning and control of the level of flavouring ensures the flavour is diffused uniformly throughout the body of the filter and is easily taken up by the smoke stream.

The filter tip length, circumference, pressure drop and flavour strength and type can be varied to suit the taste and filtration requirements of the customer.
