Cigar Testing - pH, Moisture & Density

GCMachine

As legislation solidifies for cigarettes, cigars are becoming the next focus area for regulators. Brazil is pioneering this new legislative trend and this range covers the testing data required by regulators. Many of the mainstream and sidestream smoke measurements can also be applied to cigars.

This range of tests provides data for the following constituents of processed tobacco. Click on each substance tested for further information and interesting facts.

Nicotine
Alkaloids
Ammonia

pH, moisture & density

  • pH
pH, standing for "power of hydrogen",  was first introduced by Danish chemist Søren Peder Lauritz Sørensen at the Carlsberg Larboratory in 1909. pH describes the negative logarithm of the concentration of hydrogen ions in solution.
  • Moisture content
The quantity of water contained within a material. This is usually measured by determining the weight loss after drying at 105°C.
  • Tobacco Density
The mass per unit of volume for the processed tobacco product.
